AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGEMENT
an exhibition of paintings at BRIAN BURKE HOUSE
The second summer exhibition at BRIAN BURKE HOUSE, includes paintings from the never exhibited series titled AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGEMENT. The title serves as a thematic lead, reflecting our individual and societal tendency towards a subversion of our dreams. Intertwined into this thematic thread is a question of leadership - a life long preoccupation of the painter, as was his inquiry into the act of painting.
In Brian Burke's enigmatic figurative paintings, beauty counteracts tragedy and the threats to our world. Complex poetic compositions of subject matter created with subtle virtuous movement of paint and colour evolve on canvas, playing between figuration and abstraction.
In his words: "... creating beauty from tragedy", Brian Burke
